our story

Founded by Debbie Word, Chemist Gin was born from a small family still and many hours of moonshining with her daughter Danielle, an actual Chemist.

Their unique appreciation for classic distilling and modern science led to the creation of their first spirit - a beautiful gin made with American botanicals and fermented organic wheat. This female-led distillery strikes a perfect balance between the traditional craft and the modern American gin movement.

Chemist® Spirits made its grand entrance onto Asheville’s bar scene in June 2018, offering North Carolina a fully operational distillery and on-site bar, Antidote, dedicated to honoring the chemists and pharmacists who kept distilling alive during Americas ignoble experiment in prohibition.

Located in the heart of brewing in North Carolina, Chemist produces Gin, Whiskey and a variety of small batch spirits utilizing local botanicals and working with pioneering tastemakers in the food & beverage scene.
